Zach ‘Tommy’ Burton has stepped down from his position as Music Director and afternoon host at Cumulus Media CHR 99.5 WZPL Indianapolis as he departs the industry for a position in commercial real estate.
He began his career at the station in 2018 as a promotions assistant. He moved to afternoons on a part-time fill-in basis in November 2019 and was promoted to full-time and Music Director in June 2021.
In a social media message announcing his departure Burton writes, “After a lot of consideration, I have made the decision to step down from music director, afternoon personality, and radio in general. Before I say anything else, I want to emphasize this was my decision and there are no hard feelings for WZPL. In fact, it was an honor to work at such an amazing station, and I plan on being in the crowd, supporting the incredible talent, at Birthday Bash. Consequently, the Two Faces For Radio podcast that my good friend, Jackson, and I worked so hard to build will also be ending.”
Recently appointed Program Director Jimmy Steele is currently filling the afternoon slot, but the station is beginning the search for a new MD to also fill an on-air role.
