University of South Florida Public News/Talk 89.7 WUSF Tampa will drop the last remnants of its Jazz programming later this month.
Creative Loafing Tampa Bay reports that “All Night Jazz” will be replaced by additional talk programming on October 31. General Manager JoAnn Urofsky told the publication, “The changes mean WUSF 89.7 will become entirely focused on news and information, including weather and safety, so we can better serve the residents of Florida.”
WUSF has featured Jazz programming in late nights since 1966. The station trimmed the Jazz from 9pm-5am to only 9pm-12am in March replacing it with BBC World Service programming. WUSF plans to move Jazz content to its Arts Axis Florida portal where Urofsky says, “jazz will expand tremendously and we can add music, videos, podcasts and live jazz events and performances, allowing WUSF to reach more jazz audiences when and where they are; online, mobile, on social and beyond; all 24/7.”
