WRXR-FM Brand Manager/Afternoon Host Randall ‘Boner’ Smith Passes

Audacy’s “Rock 105” WRXR-FM Rossville GA/Chattanooga TN is in mourning following the loss of Brand Manager/afternoon host Randall ‘Boner’ Smith on Thursday, November 23 at the age of 54.

The station shared on Friday, “Randall Patrick Smith…you’ve known him for the past 20 years as Boner. Yesterday, Our brother in radio died suddenly. This has happened so quickly and everything that has gone on in the last 24 hours is pretty much a blur. Randy loved to entertain and he loved to make us laugh. He loved his family more than anything in the world…and they were so proud of him for finding his sobriety and his faith.”

Smith originally joined WRXR-FM as Program Director in 2001 and remained until 2016. After Audacy acquired the station from iHeartMedia, he returned as afternoon host in February 2018 and regained the Brand Manager duties in 2020. Smith began his career at WEZY Lakeland FL before joining “98 Rock” WXTB Tampa as a promotions assistant and morning show producer while in college. He would then join 102.3 WBAB Long Island as evening host in 1993 then spent three and a half years at “I97” 96.7 WIHN Bloomington IL as APD/morning host from 1995-98. After a nine month return to WXTB where he was rechristened from ‘T-Bone” to ‘Boner’, Smith became APD/MD/afternoon host at “94.3 The Planet” WNFZ Knoxville until joining WRXR-FM.
