Bonneville’s “Sactown Sports 1140” KHTK Sacramento has a new midday show, but has lost its afternoon show.
Kevin ‘Whitey’ Gleason and Chris Watkins will take over middays from 10am-2pm starting Monday, July 10. Watkins had been filling-in in middays since Dave ‘Deuce’ Morgan and Morgan Ragan departed in April after just three months of hosting the midday show. He has been with the station for nine years serving in multiple roles including in promotions, production, and hosting a podcast for the station. Gleason has been a regular on-and-off in Sacramento radio since 1989 mostly as part of “The Rise Guys” first on 93.7 and later 98.5 KRXQ before moving to KHTK from 1999 until 2011. After the show moved to San Francisco in 2011, Gleason and Mark Kreidler would return to the market to host afternoons on “ESPN 1320” KCTC from 2014-19.
The debut of the new midday show comes as afternoon co-host Nick Cattles has departed the station. Cattles joined KHTK in November 2021 from Max Media’s “ESPN 94.1” WVSP Norfolk VA. He originally served as Program Director and afternoon host before giving up the programming duties last year. He stated that he was leaving to relocate back closer to his family on the east coast.
Ramie Makhlouf will continue in afternoons as the station seeks a new co-host to join him in afternoons.
Kevin “Whitey” Gleason and Chris Watkins have been named the new midday show hosts (Monday – Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) on Sactown Sports 1140 AM.
Their new show, Whitey & Watkins, debuts on Monday, July 10, 2023.
“We are very excited to welcome Whitey Gleason back to Sactown Sports,” Steve Cottingim, SVP Market Manager for Bonneville Sacramento, said. “The credibility that Whitey has with the sports audience in Northern California coupled with Chris’ passion and knowledge of the Sacramento Kings will certainly make this show a perfect fit for our ever-expanding Sactown Sports brand.”
Whitey Gleason has spent the past several years at 95.7 The Game in San Francisco and prior to that he was part of the “Rise Guys” show on KHTK.
“It is great to be back home doing what I love at a time when the Sacramento sports scene is beaming,” Gleason said.
Chris Watkins is a Sacramento native who has been with Sactown Sports for nine years, most recently as the host of “Chris & Co” and co-host of the “Return of the Roar” podcast available on SactownSports.com.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to bring my passion for Sacramento sports to the city that I love and grew up in,” Watkins said.
“We are thrilled to pair Whitey & Watkins together,” Sactown Sports Program Director Brian Gebhardt said. “Whitey’s expertise in the radio business combined with a rising star like Chris Watkins is a duo that has tremendous potential.”
