Nexstar News/Talk 720 WGN Chicago will have its 102 acre tower site annexed into Elk Grove Village IL as part of a deal that will see the company sell the southernmost 35 acres.
The Daily Herald reports that the sold land would be utilized to construct three buildings to be utilized as a data center and an ancillary electrical substation. Nexstar will also construct six pickleball courts, a parking lot, and restrooms that would be leased to the Elk Grove Park District for a minimum of 50 years at $1 per year. Nexstar would also be required to install a sidewalk along Rohlwing Road.
To make the redevelopment possible, WGN will demolish its current 750 foot primary tower and its 250 foot auxiliary tower on the land and relocate them further north on the property. The building that houses its equipment, emergency studio and garage with landscaping equipment will remain intact.
Nexstar expects construction to start within two years and be complete in 4-8 years.
