Alpha Media will flip Hip Hop “We 102.9” KVWE Amarillo TX to Sports “Panhandle Sports Star” on Monday, August 15.
Replicating the branding utilized by the company in San Antonio, the station will mainly feature ESPN Radio programming. It will be accompanied by a pair of local shows as Lance Lahnert joins the station to host “The Drive” from 5-7pm. Lahnert, a columnist for the Amarillo Globe-News, had been hosting a daily sports show for “NewsChannel 10 Too” KFDC-TV and previously hosted at Alpha News/Talk 710 KGNC/97.5 K248DE Amarillo. “The Sports Nerds” hosted by Jake Boesen and Allen Roberson, which currently airs on KGNC from 5:30-7pm, will be heard on KVWE from 7-9pm.
The current Hip Hop format debuted on the station following Alpha’s acquisition in July 2019. Currently featuring an all-syndicated lineup that includes Ebro In The Morning, Nick Cannon, The Dana Cortez Show, and Tino Cochino Radio, KVWE currently ranks ninth in the Amarillo market with a 2.8 share, but trailing Cumulus Media Rhythmic CHR “93.1 The Beat” KQIZ’s 4.4.
