iHeartMedia News 1030 WBZ Boston has announced that Director of Programming and Operations Rob Sanchez will move into an “innovation focused consultant role” at the end of the month.
Sanchez joined WBZ in June 2018 from Washington DC where he served as Operations Manager/Program Director for Spanish Tropical “El Zol 107.9” WLZL. He first came to Washington to launch “All News 99.1” WNEW in 2012 after twelve years at 880 WCBS New York where he rose to Assistant Director of News & Programming.
Bill Flaherty will rise from News Director to Sanchez’s former role, while Jay Borselle rises to News Director. Flaherty has been with WBZ since 1987. Borselle joined WBZ in 2006 as a producer and rose to Assistant Director of News & Programming in 2018.
iHeartMedia Boston’s Legendary WBZ NewsRadio announced changes to its leadership team today, including elevating Bill Flaherty to Director of Programming and Operations and Jay Borselle to News Director, effective July 1, 2023. Flaherty succeeds Rob Sanchez, current Program Director and Vice President of News, Talk and Sports, who will transition into an innovation focused consultant role at the end of June.

As Director of Programming, Flaherty will be responsible for overseeing the programming, on-air personalities, promotions and digital operations for WBZ NewsRadio. He will report to Sprague. As News Director, Borselle will be responsible for all WBZ NewsRadio content and distribution. He will report to Flaherty.
