Just weeks after joining iHeartMedia’s News/Talk 1040 WHO as morning show producer and CHR “107.5 Kiss-FM” KKDM Des Moines as midday host, Vont Leak has gotten the proverbial call to the majors as he will join CHR 101.3 KDWB Minneapolis as evening host.
Leak, who just graduated from New Jersey’s William Paterson University in May, served as Program Director of the school’s ‘Alt Hip Hop’ “Brave New Radio” 88.7 WPSC Wayne for the past three years and previously interned as SiriusXM. During his tenure at WPSC, Leak won awards for Best College Morning Show in the Country, Best College On-Air Personality in the Country, Best College Program Director in the Country twice and the station won the 2021 Marconi Award for College Radio Station of the Year.
Leak takes the evening spot vacated by E. White following his promotion to mornings at 97.1 KZHT Salt Lake City earlier this month.
iHeartMedia Minneapolis’s 101.3 KDWB, the Twin Cities #1 Hit Music Station, announced today that on-air personality Vont Leak will join “The KDWB Night Show,” effective August 21st. “The KDWB Night Show” broadcasts weekdays from 6p-11p.
“The KDWB Night Show” features the iHeart Radio Hitlist, a countdown of today’s biggest hits and topical phone interaction with KDWB’s nighttime audience.
“To say that Vont catapulted his broadcasting career is an understatement,” said Rich Davis, 101.3 KDWB Program Director. “As soon as I reviewed his resume and accomplishments, I knew he was a guy I needed to talk to. He is young, eager, and his passion is palpable. Vont is up to the task, and I can’t wait to watch him continue to grow as a part the 101.3 KDWB team.”
“I’m fanatical about radio. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine being blessed with the privilege to live my dream so soon, hosting a night show at a powerhouse like 101.3 KDWB. I’m beyond grateful to Rich Davis for believing in my potential, and I can’t wait to see if my New Jersey and New York winters have anything on Minneapolis,” said Vont Leak.
Leak joins the Minneapolis market from a brief stop at KKDM in Des Moines, Iowa where he most recently served as an On-Air Talent for 107.5 KISS FM and Morning Producer for Newsradio 1040 WHO. He also served as the Program Director for WPSC at William Paterson University where he created a morning radio show which was named Best College Morning Show in the Country, Best College On-Air Personality in the Country, Best College Program Director in the Country twice and led the station to winning a Marconi Award for College Radio Station of the Year in 2021.
