Voice FM launches weekday Green Breakfast Show

Southampton’s Voice FM has launched a new weekday breakfast show to shine a spotlight on global environmental issues.

The station says Your Green Breakfast is the UK’s first regular breakfast radio show dedicated to tackling climate change, pollution, recycling and more.

Your Green Breakfast is hosted by Xan Phillips who is an environmental campaigner and broadcaster. He covered the first Climate Change Demo in 2005 as a podcaster and has presented the station’s first weekly environmental show, Your Green Voice, since November 2021.

Along with focusing on local green news, such as Southampton being one of five global cities nominated for National Park City status and global environmental headlines, Xan also gives local pollution and UV forecasts, and updates on how much sustainable energy the UK has generated in the past 24 hours.

Your Green Breakfast first aired on Voice FM in late November 2023 as part of Our Earth Week, which united community radio stations across the UK ahead of the COP28 global climate summit.

The decision to make Your Green Breakfast a permanent addition to the weekday schedule came after the show’s COP28 success. “There was enough news, intrigue, and positive listener response to continue the show through COP28,” said Xan Phillips.

“Our station’s target audience is the age group most concerned about climate change, so to create a regular fixture in our daily programming highlighting the environment was a logical decision.

“The new show provides our listeners with a place for consistent positive green news and debate, often with a Southampton focus, so they can get involved in their local community. We have frequent guests who have solutions for a sustainable future, and we celebrate life on Earth and the progress being made to make our planet healthier for all.”

The show is on Monday to Friday from 8-9am on 103.8FM and voicefmradio.co.uk
