Virgin Pride hires A Gay and A NonGay to cover Graham Norton

James Barr and Dan Hudson are joining Virgin Radio Pride UK for a one off show special to celebrate their first 250 podcast episodes.

The duo hosts an LGBTQ+ podcast called A Gay and A NonGay and will bring it to the radio as they cover Graham Norton’s slot on the station.

The podcast, released every Wednesday at 6am, dives into conversations around day-to-day life, differences in perceptions, homophobia, coming out, mental health and lighter topics like dating. Its mission is to talk openly, promote equality, freedom and friendship whilst making listeners laugh.

The Virgin Radio Pride UK special will celebrate the success of the podcast, in conversation with James and Dan on all their biggest conversations and funniest moments.

Virgin Radio UK Content Director, Mike Cass said: “Virgin Radio Pride UK has set out to reduce inequality by tackling important issues through our programming alongside playing great music in one big celebration of LGBTQ+ culture. We love to celebrate trailblazers on the station so we are delighted to be broadcasting a special dedicated to James and Dan’s brilliant work.”

Former Hits Radio breakfast host James Barr said: “What an incredible journey it has been getting to 250 podcasts and having a show dedicated to that landmark on Virgin Radio Pride UK. Sitting down and chatting through our funniest moments and biggest conversations in the podcast is going to be loads of fun.”

Dan Hudson, a former BBC and Bauer producer, added: “Virgin Radio Pride UK has created a live community for LGBTQ+ people and allies – we’re delighted to be a part of it and get the chance to talk all about our adventures since launching A Gay and A NonGay.”

Other programming coming up includes Adam Lambert joining the station’s Quite a Queer conversation on Wednesday, documentaries on what it means to be bisexual in 2021, reuniting the cast of 1996 film Beautiful Thing, Andy Bell’s documentary on how LGBTQ+ communities helped shape dance music from Disco to House and a special on LGBTQ+ participation in sport.

The station has already featured the Worthing and Blackpool Pride festivals on air, launched the Virgin Radio UK Pridecast so listeners can catch up with the biggest moments on air, with Matt Cain’s weekly Sunday afternoon magazine show – The Sunday Roast – hosting a discussion about important LGBTQ+ issues with celebs and panelists from a range of organisations.
