Val Garris Exits Cumulus Media

Another veteran programming executive is departing Cumulus Media as Corporate VP/Programming Val Garris has exited his position.

Garris joined Cumulus in the early 2000s with time as Executive Format Director for Rock/Classic Rock, VP/Programming, and VP/Analytics. He previously held positions at consultancies Burkhart/Douglass & Associates, Startford Research and McVay Media.

Garris says, “Over the course of his career he worked across multiple music formats, including Rock, Classic Rock, Classic Hits, Adult Hits, Alternative, AAA, Top 40 and others. Being one of the architects of the music scheduling system that Cumulus currently uses, he is an expert at scheduling along with research design & analysis. A market strategist with experience in dissecting the competitive landscape, he helped many stations find success, provided Cumulus with Nielsen ratings analyses, and is a creative writer with audio production skills.”

He adds, “I look back on my tenure at Cumulus with fond memories having launched countless stations, hired and helped PDs grow into their role while serving on numerous industry committees. I prided myself on being a resource to every size market and department. I’m excited about the future” Garris is seeking his next opportunity and can be reached at valgarris1@gmail.com or by text at 770-335-6130.

Garris’ exit follows last week’s announcement of the departure of Cumulus’ VP/Country Programming Charlie Cook at the end of May.
