iHeartMedia Hot Talk “97.1 The Freak” KEGL Fort Worth/Dallas will add to its Sports play-by-play with the addition of University of North Texas football for the next three seasons.
KEGL will add UNT football through LEARFIELD’s Mean Green Sports Properties. The station also carries the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. Metro Broadcasters-Texas Red Dirt Country/American “95.3 The Range” KHYI Howe will continue to carry the University’s men’s basketball.
UNT Athletics and its exclusive multimedia rightsholder, LEARFIELD’s Mean Green Sports Properties, announced today a multi-year broadcast relationship with iHeartMedia Dallas.
The new agreement provides comprehensive radio coverage for Mean Green football fans across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex through the 2025-26 athletic season. Starting in August, fans will be able to hear North Texas game broadcasts on 97.1 The Freak, iHeartMedia Dallas’ newest local, personality- driven, lifestyle talk-radio station.

Mean Green men’s basketball coverage will continue to be heard on KHYI 95.3 FM in the Denton area. Live football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball game broadcasts and athletics content is also available worldwide through The Varsity Network online and on The Varsity Network app.
