Two women killed in stabbing and police shooting in Melbourne

Two women have died after a stabbing developed into a police shooting in Melbourne’s northeast. 

Police were called to a Kett Street address after reports of a woman being seriously assaulted by another woman about 6.30pm today.

Officers were “challenged by a woman armed with a knife, who was subsequently shot”, police said.

Lower plenty police shooting and stabbing deaths

That woman in her 20s died at the scene.

Paramedics worked to save the woman in her 50s but she also died at the scene.

It’s understood both women were known to each other.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the tragedy.

Homicide detectives will investigate with the oversight of the Professional Standards Command, as per protocol when a police firearm is discharged.
