Firefighters assessed the structural integrity of two homes after a magnitude 3.6 earthquake hit western Sydney on Friday night.
The quake occurred just before 9pm in Penrith, Geoscience Australia confirmed, saying the event took place at a depth of eight kilometres.
It was also felt in Silverdale, Orchard Hills, and the Blue Mountains with almost 3000 people saying they felt the tremors and logged “felt reports” with the agency.

Acting super independent Mat Sigmund said firefighters received a handful of triple zero calls and responded to two locations.
“One was a single-level home and Glenmore Park where there was some structural collapse to a roof and roof tiles,” Sigmund said
“And the second location was to a four-level unit block in Kingswood where there was some cracking to a wall.
“On both occasions our firefighters weren’t required to take any action, there was no evacuations required and no injuries on site with a risk of further structural collapse.”

He advised residents to contact their insurers if they were noticing damage as a result of the earthquake.
WaterNSW has assessed the region’s key dams, including Warragamba,which confirmed no safety risk resulting from the seismic event.
“Precautionary inspections continue this morning, but the seismic activity was well below the threshold that would pose any threat to WaterNSW dam infrastructure,” NSW water said.
“Dams such as Warragamba are designed to withstand major seismic events and the most extreme weather conditions.”

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology confirmed on X, the platform formally known as Twitter, that there was no tsunami threat following the quake.
The NSW Rural Fire Service took to social media also confirming the quake.

“A 3.6 magnitude earthquake has occurred around the Warragamba area, with tremors being felt across the Blue Mountains and western Sydney area.”
People claimed they felt it in parts of The Hills region in north-west Sydney, while others in Bondi in eastern Sydney and some on the Central Coast also claimed they’d felt the tremor.
