Alpha Media has appointed Tim Richards through his Tim Richards Media consultancy as Content Director of Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL Portland.
Richards launched his consultancy along with the late Steve Smith in 2020. He previously has a long run in Phoenix with stints from 2011 to 2020 with stints as Show Director for the syndicated Johnjay & Rich show and Program Director of iHeartMedia CHR “104.7 Kiss-FM” KZZP, before moving to CBS Radio/Audacy as PD of Country 107.9 KMLE in 2013 adding those duties for Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL-FM and cluster Operations Manager in 2014 and VP/Programming in 2015. Richards has also served as OM/RVP Programming for Clear Channel Tucson from 2003-11 after a previous stint from 1996-1999, and has programmed Alternative “Q101” WKQX Chicago, CHR “Q95.5” WKQI Detroit, was Regional PD for Pacific Star Communications, and APD/MD of Hot AC “Mix 98.5” WBMX Boston.
The appointment continues Alpha Portland’s trend of hiring consultants to serve as day-to-day programmers following the addition of P1 Media Group co-founders Ken Benson and Max Dugan to serve as co-Content Directors of AAA 101.9 KINK in January 2023 following the exit of Operations Manager and KINK/KUPL Program Director Gene Sandbloom.
Alpha Media is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Richards, founder of Tim Richards Media, as the new Content Director for the legendary Country KUPL-FM in Portland, Oregon, effective immediately. This strategic move is a testament to Alpha Media’s commitment to strengthening its leadership in the industry and enhancing the listener experience.
Tim Richards, with a proven track record in consulting and developing targeted marketing strategies, brings his expertise to KUPL-FM. “I am profoundly grateful to Robert Dove, Phil Becker, and the entire team at Alpha Media for this incredible opportunity,” said Richards. “KUPL is an iconic brand in a world-class city, and our collective mission is to amplify its reach and impact. We aim to deepen our connection with our fans and the artists they admire, both in Portland and the broader Country music community.”
