The Patriot Brings Americana To Abilene

WesTex Telco has completed the move of Variety Hits “101.7 The Raider” KTJK Hawley/Abilene TX to 106.3 and has debuted a new format on what is now KKHR.

After stunting all weekend with a stunt loop promoting the new format, KKHR flipped this morning to a mix of Americana, Classic Rock, and Texas Country as “101.7 The Patriot“. Songs heard on the stunt loop were Charlie Daniels Band “Devil Went Down To Georgia”, John Denver “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, Cross Canadian Ragweed “17”, Allman Brothers “Midnight Rider”, Aaron Watson “Outta Style”, and Lynyrd Skynyrd “Free Bird”. Those were interspersed with organ covers of songs, as cluster Operations Manager Dustin Tatro is also the organist for MLB’s Texas Rangers, whose games will also be heard on the station.

Tatro told us, “It’s exciting to be able to continue changing the landscape! Two things were apparent from feedback with our listeners – their love of the one-of-a-kind, house programmed mix on our flagship, The Raider, and a need for an alternative even more “Abilene.” So, we took The Raider, country-fried it, kind of, but it’s not exclusively a country station either! We’ve got the diverse roots of Americana, the best of Texas Music, and good old Southern Rock, with healthy doses of our up and coming local artists and America’s sport. I think folks here on the Friendly Frontier will like 101.7 The Patriot.”

The former “Raider” was upgraded from the Class A 101.7 signal to the 50kW/46m Class C2 facility on 106.3 on August 1.
