After ending its Jazz programming in July, Lee Rust’s North Coast Radio Inc. has sold 105.9 WJZR Rochester NY to the WXXI Public Broadcasting Council.
The deal is valued at $1.2 million with WXXI paying $675,000 in cash and additional $525,000 will be credited to Rust as a charitable gift for tax purposes. As part of the deal WXXI will relocate WJZR to a new tower site and convert the station to non-commercial status as it will join their PBS affiliate WXXI-TV, Public News/Talk 1370 WXXI/107.5 W298CH, and Classical 91.5 WXXI-FM Rochester. WXXI also operates the University of Rochester’s AAA 88.5 WRUR Rochester.
Grand Valley State University sells Silent 1480 WKVU Kentwood/Grand Rapids MI to Smile FM for $60,000. WKVU’s former simulcaster 850 WGVS Muskegon was sold to Smile FM in May for $25,000. The two stations ran a non-commercial Oldies format until the start of this year.
Augusta Radio Fellowship acquires Gospel “G104.3” WJSG Hamlet NC from Sherrell Jackson’s Jackson Broadcasting Company for $540,000.
Translator Sales
Wilkins Radio’s JJ&B Broadcasting acquires 98.9 W255AS Augusta GA from Edgewater Broadcasting for $85,000. The translator will be utilized to rebroadcast the buyer’s Christian Preaching 1050 WFAM Augusta.
