Sports Rap Radio Ceases Operations

Sports Rap Radio 1270 WXYT DetroitAfter less than three months in operation, Rob Parker’s Sports Rap Radio has shut down.

Unveiled in February with an original launch planned for mid-May on Audacy’s 1270 WXYT Detroit before further national expansion, the brand launched on June 4 with a lineup of 12 hours of locally originating programming followed by Fox Sports Radio network shows including “The Odd Couple” co-hosted by Parker and Chris Broussard.

With an ownership group also featuring former NBA star turned agent BJ Armstrong and former college athletes Dave Kenney and Maurice ‘Moe’ Ways, Parker’s intent was to launch all-Black hosted lineups first in Detroit before expanding the top 20-25 black markets. Parker told Barrett Media that a second round of funding fell through.

WXYT has reverted to its previous Sports Betting “The Bet Detroit” programming.
