UlsterMUX Ltd, a nonprofit company based in Co. Down, has announced plans to apply for the small-scale DAB licence for the Newry and Banbridge areas.
The team behind UlsterMUX Ltd has experience in radio communications, broadcast, advanced IP networks and computer programming in the local area.
A spokesperson told RadioToday: “If successful in our licence bid, the UlsterMUX team has the knowledge and experience to get this project to launch at the earliest possible instance.
“We will also be carrying out every aspect of this project in house, without the need for external expensive subcontractors or advisors.
“If awarded the SSDAB license for the Newry area, we promise to never compromise on bitrates or audio quality and every penny raised will be pumped back into sustaining and improving this very important Community resource.”
Newry’s local community radio station IUR-fm has previously announced plans to apply for the small-scale DAB licence which it says will also operate on a not for profit basis.
