In honour of World Mental Health Day on October 10th, Scala Radio is broadcasting a special 3-part series exploring the links between music and mental health.
The show will be hosted by NHS doctor, author and GP on Lorraine and Good Morning Britain, Dr Amir Khan.
In the first episode, Dr Amir will dig deep into the correlations between classical music and mental wellbeing by exploring the benefits classical music can bring to us.
The following episodes will focus on what we can do to improve mental health within the context of music, such as active listening, dancing, and joining choirs.
Speaking ahead of the series, Dr Amir Khan said, “It is fantastic that initiatives such as World Mental Health Day bring conversation on the subject to the forefront, and even better that Scala Radio is using its platform to amplify it.
Bringing my own medical knowledge and personal experiences to the show, I’m honoured to have this opportunity to explore exactly how classical music can be beneficial to us.”
Scala Radio’s Programme Manager, Jenny Nelson added: “It’s brilliant that classical music has become increasingly popular over recent years as people turn to it for comfort and solace, and this series will celebrate the power of peaceful music whilst examining why it’s so beneficial for us. I can’t wait for Dr Amir to provide a soothing soundtrack to our Sunday evenings.”
‘Mindset on Scala Radio with Dr Amir Khan’ starts on Sunday 9th October from 6-8pm.
