After 22 years in mornings at iHeartMedia Country “Q102” WUSQ-FM Winchester VA, Rosie Walsh retired today to focus on her cancer treatments with the station paying tribute as “Rosie 102.5“.
Walsh told listeners that in March of 2022 the breast cancer she had in 2018 had returned and has since spread with treatments so far not working and had entered hospice care.
Walsh joined WUSQ in 2000 as receptionist before becoming part of the morning show with Chris Mitchell later that year. Mitchell told the Winchester Star that someone called the front desk with a traffic update, ““She walked into the studio and host Chuck Carroll turned the guest mic on and said, ‘Just go ahead and read it’. Our general manager, Chuck Peterson, heard her and said, ‘Wow, she sounds great.’ She was an absolute natural. … We stopped looking for a female cohost. She was the obvious choice.”
