Rock 93.1 Debuts In Jackson As Blues Moves

Rock 93.1 WHJT-HD2 JacksonDigio Strategies has moved “Blues 93.1” to 780 WIIN Ridgeland/102.1 W271DF Jackson as “Blues 102.1“, while after a few hours of stunting with Christmas Music, 93.1 W225BK Cedar Hills/93.5 WHJT-HD2 flipped to Rock/Alternative “Rock 93.1“.

Launching with 5000 songs commercial-free, the new brand is launching under Brand Manager Jay Michaels, who will continue to also oversee AC “Mix 98.7” WJKK and CHR “Y101” WYOY. Michaels said, “To have the opportunity to launch the very first Rock/Alternative station in Jackson is such a huge game changer and bringing back iconic artists like Weezer, Linkin Park, Nirvana, Cranberries, Blink 182 plus new rock from Shinedown, Noah Kahan, Twenty One Pilots and more! The support from owner Clay Holladay, Market Manager Kelly Crocker and Operations Manager Jan Michaels and the team has been incredible. We are locally owned and programmed with all the media tools, air talent, and work environment to have a wildly successful station.”

Market Manager Kelly Crocker commented, “This is the music I really love, and we are thrilled to add this station to our growing cluster. It will bring a truly unique audience to our already large listenership. We are passionate about executing GREAT live and local radio and this new addition enhances our ability to connect with our community.”

Operations Manager Jan Michaels added, ““There was a huge void in the Jackson market for this format and we have the right staff in place now to pull off this endeavor. We are so fired up about launching Rock 93.1 and bringing this station to Rock/Alt fans in Central Mississippi. Plus, we’re streaming on our new app and new website at rock931jackson.com. Download the app and give it a listen.”

The new brand launched with Guns N’ Roses “Welcome To The Jungle”, No Doubt “Spiderwebs”, Blink 182 “All The Small Things”, and Pearl Jam “Evenflow”. The moves mark the end of the Rhythmic Oldies “102.1 The Box” format.

The Blues format has been surging in the past three monthlies rising 0.5 – 1.6 – 1.9 in the July 2024 Nielsen Audio ratings. The Box is closed with a 0.5 share in July.
