Ricky Wilson is joining Virgin Radio UK full-time to take over the weekday Drivetime show.
The Kaiser Chiefs lead singer has previously stood in for Chris Evans on Breakfast, but will now host his own show 4pm till 7pm Monday to Friday from January 9th 2023.
Ricky commented: “I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to getting started on Virgin Radio. Music is my number one passion, but I’m so excited about having some fun in a playful and creative space for drive time. Plus I’ll be working alongside some amazing and talented people who have been some of my radio heroes.
“I’ve been interviewed by most of them and now I get to work with them, including Chris, who has probably interviewed me more than my doctor. Virgin Radio listeners are incredible so I’m excited to entertain them all in the New Year.”
Virgin Radio UK Content Director Mike Cass said: “Ricky is a legend in the music business, and we’re extremely excited to have him joining Virgin Radio in January.
“Ricky will bring his electric energy and infectious personality to the drivetime slot, keeping our listeners entertained on their way home from work. I can’t wait for our audience to hear his show.”
Ricky recently teamed up with Tony Blackburn to host a podcast series called Ricky and Tony’s Pop Detectives, and has been presenting some 50s and 60s rock ‘n’ roll shows on BBC Radio 2 this year.
Current Drive host Steve Denyer is now hosting evenings on Virgin Radio 80s Plus and we’ve asked Virgin Radio if he’ll remain elsewhere on the main station schedule.
