Ramona Halloway has exited her role as Community Affairs Manager at Radio One Charlotte.
Halloway, who previously spent 22 years hosting the Matt & Ramona Show with Matt Harris on “107.9 The Link” turned “Mix 107.9” WLNK, had moved into that role in May 2023. In her most recent role, she was making biweekly appearances on the successor “Mix Mornings with Matt Harris and Liz Luda”, and hosting two weekly podcasts with Harris. She started her career at Country WNKO Newark OH, and has also worked as News Director and morning co-host at WTLC-FM Indianapolis from 1998-2000 and News Director of WNCI Columbus prior to teaming up with Harris at “Z104” WNVZ Norfolk. She has also co-hosted “Charlotte Today” on WCNC-TV and “Fox News Edge” on WCCB-TV.
She told the Charlotte Observer that she was let go on Tuesday due to “budget cuts” as they were eliminating the position they created for her last year. She said, “On one hand, the work that I signed up to do is at the core of everything that I believe, which is helping people who need help, connecting them with the help that they need, and using storytelling to help people see their problems through somebody else’s eyes Literally a few weeks later, it’s like, You know what? ‘Budget cuts.’ I was like, ‘Well, wait a minute. I more than made my salary. … And the budget cut is me? That’s weird. That’s really, really weird. But it’s not my company.”
Halloway also told the newspaper that she is very much open to an on-air position elsewhere in the market.
