Radio Vermont General Manager Steve Cormier Exits

With Mermel & McLain Management LLC taking over management of Radio Vermont Group ahead of their expected purchase of the company, General Manager Steve Cormier has exited the company.

Cormier joined the company in 2015 as Director of Sales and rose to General Manager when he intended to purchase the company in 2017. Before joining the company, Cormier programmed and hosted mornings at Classic Rock 106.7 WIZN from 1986-1997, and then Sports “Champ 101.3” WCPV from 1998-2009. From 1992-2008 he was paired with University of Vermont basketball coach Tom Brennan for “Corm & The Coach”. The duo would host an internet version of the show until 2011 at which time Cormier made the transition to sales as General Manager of 1450 WTSA/96.7 WTSA-FM Brattleboro in 2012.

The sale of the company to Myers Mermel and Scott Milne has yet to be filed with the FCC as the company is first awaiting approval of the transfer of control of the company from former trustee Glen Wright to Ashley Squire. The company owns Variety 550 WDEV/96.1 WDEV-FM Warren/96.5 W243AT Barre/98.3 W252CU Montpelier, Country “93.9 Vermont Country” WLVB Morrisville, and Classic Hits 101.7 WCVT Stowe/102.5 W273AM Montpelier.

Outgoing owner Ashley Jane Squire told staffers on Monday at Cormier had exited the company and that all “operational issues, financial matters, advertising concerns, and emergency station matters” should go to Mermel. She told VTDigger in-regards to a few other departures have happened since the sale was announced, “I think it’s all to be expected because when change happens there’s a lot of shakeup. The change, though, is very positive from my perspective, and I just feel that we’re moving toward a Radio Vermont Group that’s healthy and remains a very vital part of the media landscape in Vermont.”
