iHeartMedia CHR “Q102” WIOQ Philadelphia will celebrate its 35th birthday on Thursday, January 18.
The station is splicing in historical clips of the station and “giving away its birthday presents” this week. Program Director/afternoon host Brandon ‘Buster’ Satterfield highlights former morning show co-host Diego Ramos for contributing many of the audio being shared. Ramos spent eighteen years at WIOQ from 1990-2009.
WIOQ dropped its Oldies “Solid Gold 102” identity at 7:18am on January 18, 1989 under Program Director Mark Driscoll and moved to a Rhythmic CHR format. Joining the station at launch as afternoon host was Elvis Duran, who would rise to Program Director in May 1989 before departing the station in February 1990. Duran made a return to the station in 2006 with his syndicated morning show that remains in place eighteen years later.
