Power 99 Philadelphia Staffers Begin Unionization Efforts

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the ten on-air hosts and producers of iHeartMedia Hip Hop “Power 99” WUSL Philadelphia have begun efforts to unionize under SAG-AFTRA.

The ten employees filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board earlier this week. The report states that “iHeartMedia will have an opportunity to respond to the petition with the NLRB. If the NLRB approves an election, a majority of members who choose to vote would have to elect union representation. If they elect to unionize, collective bargaining would follow. It often takes new unions a year or more to reach a first contract.”

Philadelphia employees of iHeart’s Total Traffic & Weather Network and CHR “Q102” WIOQ are already among the stations represented by SAG-AFTRA in the market. WUSL is currently locally originated in mornings with the Rise & Grind Morning Show featuring Mikey Dredd, Muthaknows, Roxy Romeo and mixer DJ Diamond Kuts
and at night with DJ Cosmic Kev. The station features Premiere Networks’ “Way Up with Angela Yee” in middays and WJBT Jacksonville based voicetracker T-Roy in afternoons.
