A dedicated local news page for Wolverhampton has launched on the BBC website.
The BBC says content and stories from the area will now be much easier to find, while bigger stories will have greater prominence on the BBC News app, homepage and live pages.
Peterborough, Bradford and Sunderland are also getting their own service, meaning 43 different local areas in England have their own pages. In addition, 11 new investigations teams based across England will be delivering original journalism across all daily services.
Kay Wright, Interim Senior Head of Content Production for the Midlands said: “This is a significant development for Wolverhampton. Increasingly, people are getting their local and community news from online and digital sources. So to have a dedicated service for the city is the most effective way to serve our Wolverhampton audiences with trusted news which matters to them and their lives.”
Jason Horton, Director, BBC Local, added: “This is about modernising our digital offer and delivering greater local value for all our audiences no matter where they are in the country. We are determined to provide the best programming and content for our audiences whether they choose to listen to our Local Radio stations, watch our regional TV News bulletins on BBC One or read and view our content online or via our apps.”
