October 2022 (9/15 – 10/12) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 1: WABE Continues Surge Ahead Of Election

Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

New York

107.5 WBLS New York Emmis MediaCoMediaCo Adult R&B 107.5 WBLS rises for the fifth straight month to expand its New York lead up 6.6 to 6.9. Three stations end up in a tie for second place with iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW down 6.0 to 5.5 and SBS Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ and Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM both down 5.7 to 5.5. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ moves up to fifth 5.1 to 5.2.

iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” WHTZ is off 5.3 to 4.8, while 103.5 WKTU drops 3.9 to 3.4 and Conservative Talk 710 WOR slips 2.0 – 1.7 – 1.5.

Audacy Sports 660 WFAN/101.9 WFAN-FM trends up 2.8 – 3.2 – 3.7. Univision Spanish Rhythmic “X96.3” WXNY rises 2.1 – 2.3 – 2.8.

In its final full monthly, Audacy’s “Alt 92.3” WNYL inches up 1.2 to 1.3.

Los Angeles

Real 92.3 KRRL Los Angeles DJ CarismaiHeartMedia AC 103.5 KOST remains on top 5.8 to 5.7. Audacy Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH inches up 5.1 to 5.2. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG dips 5.5 to 5.1. iHeart Talk 640 KFI holds at a 4.7 share. Audacy Rhythmic AC “94.7 The Wave” KTWV is off 4.4 to 4.2.

iHeartMedia Hip Hop “Real 92.3” KRRL rises 2.7 to 3.4, while Meruelo Media’s “Power 106” KPWR holds at a 1.5 share.

Trending down is Audacy Variety Hits “93.1 Jack-FM” KCBS-FM 3.9 – 3.6 – 3.0.

Chicago

97.1 The Drive WDRV ChicagoHubbard Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV remains on top dropping 6.6 to 6.1. iHeartMedia AC “93.9 Lite-FM” WLIT rises 5.3 to 5.7, while sister Adult R&B “V103” WVAZ rises 4.7 to 5.4. Audacy News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS is up 4.9 to 5.3. Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 105.1” WOJO rises 3.9 to 4.4.

Audacy AAA 93.1 WXRT rises 3.6 – 3.9 – 4.3.

Public News/Talk 91.5 WBEZ falls 4.8 – 4.4 – 4.0. Nexstar Talk 720 WGN drops 3.6 – 3.5 – 2.9. Audacy Country “US 99” WUSN is down 4.1 – 3.3 – 2.9.

San Francisco

96.5 KOIT San FranciscoAudacy News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC trends up 6.2 – 6.4 – 7.0, while Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT rises 6.0 to 7.0 to each stake a claim of the Bay Area lead. Public News/Talk 88.5 KQED-FM drops 8.5 – 7.8 – 6.6. iHeartMedia Soft AC “98.1 The Breeze” KISQ is up 4.7 to 5.0. Bonneville CHR “99.7 Now” KMVQ trends up 3.2 – 3.9 – 4.1.

Bonneville Adult R&B 102.9 KBLX rises 2.6 – 2.8 – 3.5. Cumulus Sports 680 KNBR/104.5 KNBR-FM is off 4.0 – 3.6 – 3.3, while Audacy Hot AC “Alice 97.3” KLLC drops 3.2 to 2.6.

In its final monthly as Talk, Cumulus’ 810 KGO drops 1.7 to 1.6, while sister Conservative Talk 560 KSFO falls 2.0 – 1.8 – 1.5.

Dallas/Fort Worth

Alt 103.7 KVIL DallasUnivision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 94.1” KLNO remains in the lead 5.4 to 5.2. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Lonestar 92.5” KZPS inches up 4.9 to 5.0. Cumulus News/Talk 820 WBAP places third 4.9 to 4.8. Audacy Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV (4.8 to 4.4) and Cumulus Sports “96.7/1310 The Ticket” KTCK (4.0 to 4.4) tie for fourth.

Service Broadcasting Adult R&B “Smooth 105.7” KRNB trends up 3.3 – 3.6 – 4.3. Audacy Regional Mexican “La Grande 107.5” KMVK rises 3.1 to 3.8, while sister “Alt 103.7” KVIL jumps up 2.8 to 3.5 for its highest share since it was Hot AC in July 2015 and Cowboys flagship “105.3 The Fan” KRLD-FM rises 1.9 to 2.8. Radio One Hip Hop “97.9 The Beat” KBFB is up 1.7 to 2.3.

iHeartMedia AC “Star 102.1” KDGE falls from second to seventh 5.1 to 4.1, while sister CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS trends down 5.4 – 4.4 – 4.0. iHeart Hot AC “Now 102.9” KDMX trends 3.4 – 3.0 – 2.7.

With its flip from Rock “97.1 The Eagle” to Hot Talk “97.1 The Freak” taking place halfway through the monthly, KEGL holds steady at a 1.5 share.

Houston/Galveston

Sunny 99.1 KODA HoustoniHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA jumps up 8.7 to 9.8 for what Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes is the highest share for the station outside of the December and Holiday monthlies when playing Christmas music. Audacy Variety Hits “95.7 The Spot” KKHH dips 6.1 to 5.9. Cox Classic Rock “107.5/106.9 The Eagle” KGLK/KHPT is off 6.3 to 5.7. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ (5.9 to 5.5) and Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 102.9” KLTN (5.7 to 5.5) tie for fourth.

Hope Media Group Christian AC 89.3 KSBJ slips 6.0 to 5.3. iHeartMedia Alternative “94.5 The Buzz” KTBZ is off 5.8 to 5.1. Audacy Spanish CHR “Mega 101” KLOL drops 3.0 – 2.9 – 2.2.

Trending up are Radio One Hip Hip “97.9 The Box” KBXX (3.9 – 4.0 – 4.5) ,Cumulus CHR 104.1 KRBE (3.6 – 4.1 – 4.5), and iHeartMedia Hip Hop “93.7 The Beat” KQBT (3.1 – 3.7 – 4.1).

Atlanta

90.1 WABE Atlanta PBA WPBA-TVCox Classic Rock “97.1 The River” WSRV holds onto its lead up 8.3 to 8.4. The big story in Atlanta is the continued rise of Public News/Talk 90.1 WABE as it moves up 6.8 to 7.2 to set a new station record high for the second straight month. WABE has surged through the election season from a 2.9 share as recently as June. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 107.5/97.5” WAMJ/WUMJ rises from sixth to third 6.2 to 7.0. Cox Adult R&B “Kiss 104.1” WALR slides 7.4 to 6.6, while sister Hot AC “B98.5” WSB-FM is off 6.5 to 6.1.

Salem Christian AC “104.7 The Fish” WFSH-FM jumps up 3.4 – 4.2 – 5.0.

Cumulus CHR “Q99.7” WWWQ dips 4.9 to 4.4, while iHeartMedia’s “Power 96.1” WWPW rises 2.8 to 3.6.

Audacy Hip Hop/R&B “V103” WVEE trends down 4.7 – 4.0 – 3.4. Cumulus’ “New Country 101.5” WKHX slides 3.5 – 3.4 – 2.6.

Philadelphia

94 94.1 WIP PhiladelphiaBeasley Media Rock 93.3 WMMR holds onto its lead despite sliding 8.7 to 7.9. iHeartMedia Adult R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM is down 7.5 to 7.0. Audacy Sports 94.1 WIP trends up 4.8 – 5.3 – 6.5 (while its stream adds an additional 2.2 share which combined give it the true market lead). Audacy AC “B101” WBEB (5.4 to 5.6) and Beasley Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK (5.5 to 5.6) tie for fourth.

Beasley Variety Hits “95.7 Ben-FM” WBEN-FM rises 3.1 – 3.8 – 4.3. After returning to Adult R&B, Radio One’s 100.3 WRNB trends up 1.2 – 1.4 – 1.6.

iHeartMedia CHR “Q102” WIOQ trends down 3.6 – 3.4 – 2.8, while sister “Alt 104.5” WRFF is down 2.8 – 2.4 – 2.1.

Long Island

103.1 Max-FM WBZO Bay Shore Connoisseur MediaCox Classic Rock 102.3 WBAB/95.3 WHFM leads down 6.6 to 6.1. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ places second 5.2 to 5.3. iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” WHTZ rises 4.5 to 5.2 to tie for third with MediaCo Adult R&B 107.5 WBLS as it slips 5.9 to 5.2. Connoisseur Media Hot AC 97.5 WALK-FM rises 4.6 to 4.9.

Following the release of its airstaff, Connoisseur Media Classic Hits “103.1 Max-FM” WBZO trends up 2.7 – 3.5 – 4.0.

Cox CHR 106.1 WBLI trends down 4.7 – 4.1 – 3.3 for what Huff notes is its lowest non-Holiday monthly since 1996.

Riverside/San Bernardino

99.9 KOLA-FM Riverside San BernardinoAnaheim Broadcasting Classic Hits 99.9 KOLA-FM continues its surge up 5.9 – 7.7 – 9.2 which Huff notes is not far from its 9.6 record in 2011. Audacy Country 95.1 KFRG rises 3.6 to 4.6 to tie Good News Radio Christian AC 89.7 KSGN (up 3.7 – 4.6) for second. Entravision Spanish Adult Hits “Jose 97.5” KLYY holds at a 4.3 share. Estrella Media Regional Mexican “La Que Buena 96.1” KRQB rises 3.2 – 3.4 – 3.8.

San Jose

Mix 106.5 KEZR San JoseAudacy’s News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC (4.8 – 5.7 – 6.6) and Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT (7.3 to 6.6) tie for the lead in both San Francisco AND San Jose. Alpha Media Hot AC “Mix 106.5” KEZR trends up 4.4 – 5.5 – 5.8. Bonneville Classic Rock “98.5 K-Fox” KUFX slips 6.1 – 5.5 – 5.3. Univision Spanish Adult Hits “100.3 Mas Variedad” rises 3.7 – 4.0 – 4.6.

Middlesex/Somerset/Union
