October 2021 (9/16 – 10/13) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 2: Second Record Shattering Month In A Row For 98.5 The Sports Hub

Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.

Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU surges up 7.4 to 8.7 to move from third back to first in Washington DC. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.3/92.7” WMMJ/WDCJ slips 8.8 to 8.5 and Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP drops 8.5 to 8.3. Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR is down 6.7 to 6.6 and iHeartMedia AC 97.1 WASH rises 6.1 to 6.5.

Trending up in Washington are Classical 90.9 WETA-FM (4.7 – 5.0 – 5.4), Cumulus Conservative Talk 105.9 WMAL-FM (3.2 to 4.2) and Atlantic Gateway Communications Christian AC 91.9 WGTS (2.6 – 2.8 – 4.0). On the downswing are iHeartMedia Alternative “DC 101” WWDC (6.4 – 5.4 – 4.7) and Classic Rock “Big 100” WBIG-FM (4.5 – 3.9 – 3.6) as well as Audacy Spanish CHR “107.9 El Zol” WLZL (2.0 – 1.4 – 0.9).

Beasley’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM continues its upward trend 5.8 – 7.4 – 8.0 to set a frequency record for the second straight month. Co-owned Classic Hits 105.7 WROR rises 7.2 to 7.4. iHeartMedia News/Talk 1030 WBZ dips 6.6 to 6.2, while their co-owned CHR “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM (5.8 to 5.9) and Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX (5.7 to 5.8) follow.

Audacy Hot AC “Mix 104.1” WWBX surges up 2.2 to 3.8 and co-owned Variety Hits “Big 103.3” WBGB is up 2.1 to 2.7. iHeartMedia’s recently launched Spanish CHR “Rumba 97.7” WZRM inches up 1.7 – 1.9 – 2.0.

Cox Media Group Soft AC “Easy 93.1” WFEZ rebounds 7.6 to 8.5 to retake the Miami market lead from co-owned Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT (8.7 to 8.4). Audacy AC “101.5 Lite-FM” WLYF drops 6.4 to 5.7. SBS Spanish Oldies “Zeta 92.3” WCMQ is down 5.8 to 5.5 and Univision Spanish AC “Amor 107.5” WAMR drops 5.4 to 5.1.

iHeartMedia Spanish CHR “Tu 94.9” WZTU rises 2.8 – 3.3 – 4.1 for what ratings expert Chris Huff notes is its highest since October 2019. iHeart Hip Hop “103.5 The Beat” WMIB jumps up 2.4 to 3.3. On the downswing are Audacy Classic Hits “102.7 The Beach” WMXJ (4.7 – 4.3 – 3.5) and Alternative “104.3 The Shark” WSFS (1.5 to 1.3).

With its relaunch as “The Rhythm of Miami” in the second week of the survey period, Cox’s “Hits 97.3” WFLC holds steady at a 3.1 share.

Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM remains on top of Seattle down 7.1 to 6.8. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK rises 5.5 to 6.3. Public News/Talk 94.9 KUOW-FM is up 5.4 to 5.5. Lotus News 1000 KOMO/97.7 KOMO-FM holds steady at a 5.4 share. iHeartMedia Classic Hits “95.7 The Jet” KJR-FM holds at a 5.1.

Audacy Soft AC “94.1 The Sound” KSWD surges up 3.9 – 4.6 – 4.9. Bonneville Sports “710 ESPN” KIRO jumps up 3.9 to 4.7. Trending downward are Audacy Rock 99.9 KISW (6.4 – 5.0 – 4.6), Public Alternative 90.3 KEXP (3.8 to 2.4), and iHeartMedia Variety Hits “96.5 Jack-FM” KJAQ (3.3 – 2.6 – 2.4).

iHeartMedia AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ remains on top in Phoenix down 7.3 to 6.6. Co-owned Variety Hits “95.5 The Mountain” KYOT is second but drops 6.1 to 5.3. Hubbard Classic Rock 100.7 KSLX rises 4.5 to 5.1. iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 550 KFYI rises 4.5 to 4.7, while Hubbard Rock “98 KUPD” is off 5.5 to 4.7.

A longjam is created at the top of the Detroit market. iHeartMedia Adult R&B “Mix 92.3” WMXD rises 6.7 to 6.9 to tie Beasley Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX (7.2 to 6.9) atop the lead. Audacy Classic Hits 104.3 WOMC is right behind as it falls from first 7.4 to 6.8. iHeartMedia AC 100.3 WNIC surges up 4.4 to 5.9 to tie Audacy Sports “97.1 The Ticket” WXYT-FM (5.5 to 5.9).

Beasley Rock 101.1 WRIF rebounds 4.5 to 5.1 and co-owned Classic Hip Hop “105.1 The Bounce” WMGC trends up 3.5 – 3.7 – 4.5. Cumulus Conservative Talk 760 WJR trends down 4.6 – 3.8 – 3.1.

Hubbard Hot AC “KS 95” KSTP-FM rises 7.6 to 8.2 to take the Minneapolis market lead. iHeartMedia Classic Hits “Kool 108” KQQL is off 8.7 to 7.8. Public News/Talk 91.1 KNOW-FM dips 7.5 to 7.3. iHeartMedia Sports “100.3 KFAN” KFXN-FM surges up 4.7 to 7.0. Audacy Variety Hits “104.1 Jack-FM” KZJK rises 5.1 to 5.8.

As Audacy is making changes at other under performing outlets, does the 1.7 to 1.6 drop indicate something new is on the way to Country “102.9 The Wolf” KMNB?

Audacy Classic Hits “Sunny 98.1” KXSN rises 5.7 to 6.2 to regain the San Diego market lead. LM San Diego Rhythmic AC “Magic 92.5” XHRM drops 6.8 to 5.9. Audacy Country 103.7 KSON jumps up 4.4 to 5.3. iHeartMedia’s “Rock 105.3” KIOZ (4.7 to 5.1) and Public News/Talk 89.5 KPBS-FM (5.2 to 5.1) tie for fourth.

Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 106.5” KLNV trends up 3.6 – 3.9 – 4.5. iHeartMedia CHR “Channel 93.3” KHTS-FM trends down 5.2 – 3.9 – 3.8.

Cox Media Group Soft AC 105.5 WDUV reclaims the Tampa market lead with a 7.5 to 8.5 gain. Radio Training Network Christian AC “The Joy FM” 91.5 WCIE falls 8.6 to 7.1. Cox Classic Rock “107.3 The Eagle” WXGL surges 4.8 to 6.4. Beasley Classic Hits “Q105” WRBQ rises 5.7 to 6.0. Three stations tie for fifth with iHeartMedia AC “Mix 100.7” WMTX up 3.6 to 4.3, Cox AC “Magic 94.9” WWRM down 5.0 to 4.3 and Cox Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT off 4.4 to 4.3.

Bonneville has two stations tie atop Denver as Country 98.5 KYGO slips 7.1 to 6.1 and AC 101.1 KOSI inches up 5.9 to 6.1. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “103.5 The Fox” KRFX is third up 4.9 to 5.2. Both Hot AC’s tie for fourth with KSE Media’s “Mix 100” KIMN up 3.6 to 4.8 and Audacy’s “Alice 105.9” KALC down 5.1 to 4.8.

KSE Media Classic Hits “Kool 105” KXKL trends up 3.7 – 4.1 – 4.7. Bonneville Sports “104.3 The Fan” KKFN is up 2.5 – 3.0 – 3.5. Trending down are iHeartMedia CHR “Hits 95.7” KPTT 3.0 to 2.5, Country “106.7 The Bull” KWBL 3.3 to 2.5 and Max Media Rhythmic AC “Jammin 101.5” KJHM (2.5 – 2.2 – 1.5).

Radio One Adult R&B “Magic 95.9” WWIN-FM remains on top in Baltimore with an 8.6 to 8.8 rise. iHeartMedia Country 93.1 WPOC rebounds to second up 5.6 to 6.7. Audacy AC “Today’s 101.9” WLIF slips 6.9 to 6.4. Hearst’s “98 Rock” WIYY dips 5.2 to 5.1. Audacy Sports “105.7 The Fan” WJZ-FM rises 4.3 to 5.0.

Audacy Hot AC “Mix 106.5” WWMX jumps up 3.4 to 4.1, while Peter & John Ministries Christian AC “95.1 Shine-FM” trends up 2.6 – 3.0 – 3.5. iHeartMedia Variety Hits “102.7 Jack-FM” WQSR slips down 4.8 – 4.7 – 3.9.

Hubbard Rock 94.7 KSHE continues to lead St. Louis but falls 11.0 to 9.6 with Huff noting that is the first time under a ten share since Holiday 2019. Gateway Creative Broadcasting Christian AC “Joy 99.1” KLJY rises to second 6.8 to 7.7. Hubbard Variety Hits “106.5 The Arch” WARH inches up 7.1 to 7.2. Audacy Adult R&B “96.3 The Lou” WFUN holds at a 6.8 share. Hubbard Alternative “105.7 The Point” KPNT is up 6.5 to 6.7.

Hubbard Sports “101 ESPN” WXOS trends up 3.5 – 3.8 – 5.3, while iHeartMedia CHR “Z107.7” KSLZ is up 3.5 – 3.7 – 4.6. Public News/Talk 90.7 KWMU falls 4.2 to 2.6. iHeartMedia’s newly launched Conservative Talk “104.9 The Patriot” KTLK-FM rises 0.5 to 0.9 in its first full monthly.
