New York Public Radio To Layoff 12% Of Its Staff

New York Public Radio, the parent of Public News/Talkers 820 WNYC and 93.9 WNYC-FM New York, Classical 105.9 WQXR Newark NJ, the four station “New Jersey Public Radio” network, Gothamist.com, and the WNYC Studios podcast and syndication arm, will layoff 12 percent of its staff.

In a memo shared by the New York Times, NYPR CEO/President LaFontaine Oliver said a “free fall in the advertising market” led to the need to cut staff. Employees to-be-cut will be notified next week, but the organization did not state which divisions will be hit. Current.org notes that approximately 40 employees will be affected.

The layoffs follow the announced exit of NYPR Chief Content Officer Andrew Golis earlier this month.
