New radio station Bournemouth One to launch with emphasis on local news and information

A new radio station called Bournemouth One is launching soon covering local news and information for the town and surrounding area.

The service, created by producer and designer Sophie Greenwood and RadioToday owner Roy Martin, says it will offer a clutter-free service of music and local news.

A “20/20 update”, broadcast every 20 minutes, will provide real-time information from a team of journalists and announcers, including breaking news, weather alerts, what’s on, coastal information, and current roadworks/traffic hotspots.

The announcement of Bournemouth One today comes 100 years to the day after the launch of 6BM – Bournemouth’s first radio station run by the British Broadcasting Company.

Local Alpine activity centre, SnowTrax, is the first commercial partner to join as weather sponsor. Director Nick Warne says: “Getting involved from the start with a brand new radio station for our area was a no-brainer. We’re delighted to support the service and wish them all the success for the future.”

Co-founder and Director Sophie Greenwood says: “We’ve got a superb radio station to offer both listeners and advertisers in the local area and we hope everyone will give us a listen by asking their smart speaker to ‘play Bournemouth One’ or downloading our apps”.

Roy Martin adds: “Since moving to the area 10 years ago, it’s amazed me how there’s no commercial radio service based in the town providing local news and information. Bournemouth One is here to change that playing the best songs on the radio and covering local news, events, and of course, travel information.”

Bournemouth One will launch initially online and on DAB in the future when a small-scale DAB multiplex appears as part of Round 6. A test stream is currently available at BournemouthOne.com.
