Nation Broadcasting is updating its radio app to include stations and content from other services for free.
The group has teamed up with AIM/Xperi to give UK listeners a one-stop experience if they wish to switch between stations or podcasts.
News about the app was announced at an event during Radiodays Europe 2024 in Munich.
Independent stations and groups already committed to the new platform include Tindle Radio, Sunrise Radio, Panjab Radio, Countryline: The Big 615, Podcast Radio, Fun Kids, Dee Radio, Silk Radio and News Radio UK.
Nation Radio, Nation 80s and all of Nation Broadcasting’s brand extensions will also continue to feature on the Nation Player.
Nation Broadcasting executive chairman, Jason Bryant said: “As streamed listening share accelerates, the in-car, connected experience becomes critical for listeners.
“We wanted to build a platform that is united and industry wide. We are excited to be partnering with Xperi, the world’s leading in car technology providers to deliver a best-in-class app, offering partner broadcasters the best experience for their listeners and a chance to share a collaborative revenue model with our content partners.”
Joe D’Angelo, senior vice president of broadcast and digital audio at Xperi said, “As the leading technology provider in vehicle audio, we are delighted to be working with Nation Broadcasting, to build a united, commercial app.
“Nation Player will give broadcasters and their listeners access to the best in car experience and a chance to work with us innovating the future in-car audio experience”.
In recent years, the cross-industry Radioplayer platform has seen its main investors move away from promoting a joint player in favour of their own offerings, such as BBC Sounds and Global Player.
