The sale of 96.3 WXWX Marietta/Tupelo MS and 102.9 WWMR Saltillo/Tupelo MS to Michael Brandt’s Southern Broadcasting LLC has triggered a series of format changes in Northeastern Mississippi over the past few weeks.
With Brandt taking over via LMA ahead of the sale, WXWX dropped its simulcast of Eagle Radio Network’s Country “95.3 The Bee” WADI Corinth and has flipped to CHR “Wild 96.3“. The move resurrects a brand that was previously operated by Brandt on 102.9 WWMR in 2018 and before that on 100.7 WYDL Middleton TN/Corinth MS from 2002 to 2011.
To replace the coverage lost by WXWX, Eagle Radio Network flipped Christian 1400 WBIP/99.7 W259CP Booneville MS to a simulcast of WADI, which is also heard on 98.7 W254AA Colbert Heights/Muscle Shoals AL.
The Christian “102.9 The Eagle” format is off of 102.9 WWMR Saltillo with some of its programming moving to Eagle Radio Network’s non-commercial arm Southern Community Services Inc.’s 91.9 WOWL Burnsville MS/92.9 W225AB Florence AL/102.3 W272CE Killen AL. WOWL will feature church services and Southern Gospel music all day on Sunday and Saturdays until 1pm. WOWL will also become the new home of Boonville High School sports.
Brandt has begun stunting on WWMR as “Christmas 102.9” with commercial-free Christmas music running from November 15 until December 26 when a new format will debut.
