Dick Broadcasting had a round of layoffs this week at their stations in Greensboro NC, Myrtle Beach SC, New Bern NC, and Savannah GA.
As previously reported ‘Weather Dave’ Aiken departed as co-host of the syndicated “2 Guys Named Chris” morning show and APD/MD/afternoon host at Classic Rock “Rock 92” WKRR Greensboro NC after 21 years.
Also out in Greensboro is Troy ‘Intern Squidward’ Santolla. Santolla was part of the “Jared & Katie” morning show heard on CHRs 107.5 WKZL Greensboro, “Energy 92.1” WMYB Myrtle Beach and “Hot 98.3” WGCO Savannah. He had been with the show since 2019.
While the cuts in New Bern and Savannah were of off-air staffers, four on-air talents exited in Myrtle Beach.
Crash exits as Program Director/afternoon host at Alternative 96.1 WKZQ. Crash joined WKZQ in 2008 rising from promotions to on-air spending time in overnights, nights and afternoons while rising first to Music Director and then Program Director.
Scott Mann departs as Program Director/afternoon host at Classic Rock “Wave 104.1” WYAV. Mann joined WYAV in 2002 before rising to APD/MD and then Program Director in 2014. As part of a longer post, Mann wrote, “This one hurts. This one is hard. It may get long but I ask that you stay with it. I ‘ll get right to it. As of yesterday I am no longer employed by Wave 104.1. This was a budgetary issue, just like so many other radio companies are facing. Hard choices had to be made. I am heartbroken of course. But I am feeling some pretty strong gratitude for a 22 run. So I ask you to indulge me while I thank you for a few things. First of all, thank you for 22 years of compliments and kind words and incredible overall treatment that I’m not sure I ever deserved but always appreciated. Thank you for supporting over 20 years of the Blues hangover and Scott Mann’s Headshop. To everyone that listened to or sponsored either or both of those shows you can’t imagine the joy that it brought me every week to make them and know that you were listening to them. Thank you for your generosity over the years as we fed people with 21 Marathon for meals food drives, as we raised money for cancer, music education, and endless other charity events that we have worked together over the years to do.”
Dave Priest exits as Program Director and morning host at News/Talk 99.5 WRNN as does co-host Ruth Le May. Joe ‘Cats’ Catenacci, who joined the station in 2021, remains in mornings.
