‘Mo On The Radio’ will exit afternoons at Beasley Media Country 99.5 WQYK Tampa after six months.
Formerly known as ‘Mo Bounce’, he most recently spent twelve years at iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” WHTZ New York from 2009 to April 2021 as evening and then afternoon host. He had been working as a registered nurse in a cardiac surgical unit in the Tampa area since then. The Brooklyn NY native began his career in Tampa as an intern at 93.3 WFLZ and later worked on-air at stations including WIOQ Philadelphia, KXXM San Antonio, KCHZ Kansas City, and KKHH Houston. He also was a national voicetracker across multiple formats for iHeart and was the imaging voice for the Elvis Duran Morning Show.
December 1 will be his last day at WQYK.
In a long social media post Mo wrote the following:
It’s time. Hanging up the headphones and picking up my stethoscope and butterfly needles. Life has been a whirlwind of blessings, lessons and learning the last few years.
I’m retiring from radio… again (permanently this time) and going back to the medical field. Radio has always been my passion. Then I found the passion of healthcare. And being a medical professional is a passion that supersedes any other career passion I’ve ever embraced. Direct patient care and the health of others is, what I feel, I am truly meant for. I tried it. I was great at it. So I’m going with my heart and gut! While I’ll always love the craft of radio… it’s just not who I am any longer. I ate, sweat and bled the industry for 23+ years and am very proud and thankful for the work I put in and what i have achieved. My years all over the country doing radio, to the epitome of radio, Z100… I achieved it all. Most recently here at 99.5 QYK in Tampa. Leaving on a high note of building the ratings of the afternoon show from 5th place to 1st or 2nd place in less than 6 months time. Getting to inject my silly personality and make my mark (although short lived) in Tampa Bay. I proved to myself I can still do it if i want to. My last day on-air will be Friday Dec 1st. And back in scrubs Monday Dec 4th!
With my family growing and flourishing, I want to miss the LEAST amount of moments possible. And healthcare affords me that. And fulfills me more than anything ever has in my work life. Being home for dinner, having my weekends free with my family and being able to work within minutes of my family… is what I crave. And what money can’t buy. I’m excited for the future with my amazing wife, best bud step-son and new blessing with our baby girl coming in February.
Love life. Don’t be afraid to take chances and to seize the TIME. We never get back time. Money can’t buy time. But decisions to prioritize your time CAN be made with or without a dollar to your name.
We have 1 life to live. Seize it.
