Mitski is 6 Music’s latest Artist in Residence presenting a series of eight shows

American singer and songwriter Mitski is taking over as 6 Music’s Artist in Residence presenting a series of eight shows.

All episodes are available now on BBC Sounds, but will also be broadcast on Monday 20th – Thursday 23rd and Monday 27th – Thursday 30th November (9pm-10pm) on 6 Music.

Recorded at Maida Vale Studios, Mitski’s Artist in Residence: AAA sees the artist and her producer, Patrick Hyland, provide insight into their creative process.

They talk viewers and listeners through the creation of and stories behind some of Mitski’s best loved and new tracks: Heaven, Star, Washing Machine Heart and Should’ve Been Me.

Mitski is known for her albums including Lush (2012), Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013), Bury Me At Makeout Creek (2014), Puberty 2 (2016), Be the Cowboy (2018), and Laurel Hell (2022).

She released her seventh studio album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, in September 2023, which was recorded at Bomb Shelter Studio in Nashville, Tennessee and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, California. It became her highest-charting album in the UK and her first to hit the Top 5 in the UK albums chart.

6 Music’s Artist In Residence is a journey into the musical soul of an artist, based around a theme or mood. Each episode finds the host playing records that have informed specific periods of their life.
