Maxwell Schaeffer and Amy Sweet have exited mornings at iHeartMedia News/Talk 1040 WHO Des Moines.
The duo had hosted mornings at the station since January 2021 following the retirement of Van Harden after 35 years in mornings.
Schaeffer joined iHeartMedia Des Moines in 2018 as Director of Promotions and Marketing and hosting a Saturday morning show on WHO after previously spending 23 years in mornings at Saga Classic Hits 93.3 KIOA. He is a member of the Iowa Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and was also hosting afternoons at iHeart Variety Hits “100.3 The Bus” KDRB Des Moines.
Sweet co-hosted mornings at KIOA with Schaeffer from 2006 until 2018 and remained at the station until 2020. Prior to joining KIOA, she spent eight years in mornings at CHR 98.5 KLUC Las Vegas after starting her career at then Alternative 107.5 KKDM Des Moines.
Sweet wrote, “Our sincere appreciation goes out to every listener who has tuned in to WHO over the years, making it possible for us to build upon the rich tradition of excellent programming that sets us apart from other stations. We have truly enjoyed connecting with each one of you through various initiatives designed to foster deeper connections within our beloved community. As we move forward into unknown territories, we are filled with anticipation and hope for what lies ahead!”
Schaeffer’s wife Karen Schaeffer shared on Facebook, “My heart is breaking…Max has loved being on air again…loved hearing from listeners…loved working with Amy, Margaret, Jeff and Simon but now iHeart has decided to part ways. He will miss being on in the morning and the afternoon on the Bus, and working with Iowa businesses to promote their products. Here’s to new adventures.”
