Matt Murphy Departing Talk 99.5 Birmingham To Join WWTN Nashville

Cumulus Media News/Talk “Supertalk 99.7 WTN” WWTN Nashville has completed its lineup revamp following the death of afternoon host Phil Valentine from COVID-19 this summer.

WWTN will add “Talk 99.5” WZRR Birmingham Program Director/morning co-host Matt Murphy to host a 12-3pm show. Murphy has been with WZRR and predecessor 1070 WAPI since 2007 after stints at 101.1 WYDE-FM and in Montgomery. His move to Nashville will complete a lineup restructuring that saw Dan Mandis move from 12-3pm to anchor “Nashville’s Morning News” from 5-9am and Brian Wilson move from mornings to Valentine’s former 3-7pm slot. Michael DelGiorno remains in his 9am-12pm daypart.

Back at WZRR, 1819News.com reports that Murphy’s co-host Valerie Vining has been promoted to Program Director and will be joined by a new co-host starting Monday, December 13. Vining has served as News Director for Cumulus’ Birmingham cluster since 2008 after working at 94.5 from 1988 to 2008 through its CHR “I95” WAPI-FM, Hot AC “Mix 94.5” WMXQ, and AC WYSF (under multiple brand identities) iterations. During her tenure at 94.5, Vining served as Promotions Director, APD/MD and midday host.
