Matt Bailey to host BBC Radio Newcastle breakfast show

Former Capital and Metro Radio presenter Matt Bailey is taking over the breakfast show on BBC Radio Newcastle.

He’s been working at local BBC radio for around two years on a variety of shows across Tees, Cumbria and Newcastle.

Prior to that, he hosted Breakfast on Capital North East as part of Bodg, Matt, JoJo & Hannah for almost eight years.

Matt said: “As a young boy I wanted to be a radio presenter and at the age of 12 was taken by my mam and dad on a tour of BBC Radio Newcastle. Nearly 30 years later I’m doing my dream job as the host of the Breakfast show – broadcasting to listeners across the North East.

“My Mam and Dad have always been incredibly supportive, but had no idea how you could actually become a radio presenter.

“They managed to get us on a tour of BBC Radio Newcastle and, as well as getting a signed picture of Wendy Gibson, I walked into my first ever radio studio. From that moment it has been a lifelong ambition to do the breakfast show here so this is genuinely a dream come true!”

Rik Martin, Executive Editor of BBC Radio Newcastle said: “I’m delighted to have Matt on board for the BBC Radio Newcastle Breakfast show. He’s a local lad and his passion for the North East shines through in everything he does. His enthusiasm is infectious and he and the team have some great ideas for radio that you simply won’t hear anywhere else.”

The new show starts Monday 31 October 6am – 10am.
