Loud Media Begins Knoxville Revamp With Fun 105.9 Launch

Loud Media has begun a series of signal upgrades and moves at its stations around Knoxville TN.

The company has ended the Classic Hits format of “104.9 Lake-FM” WPLA La Follette relaunching the station on 1400 WGAP/105.9 W250DJ Maryville as “Fun 105.9“. The new brand is slightly older leaning as it focuses on music from the 1970s and 80s. WPLA afternoon host Frank Murphy will move over to the new station as well.

104.9, which has applied to change call letters to WKVL, is currently running a loop directing the former audience to the new signal while promoting a new format to launch on Friday, September 22 at 5:00am. Compass Media Networks’ Anna & Raven morning show will remain on 104.9 with the new format. The station also holds a construction permit to move to Greenback TN where it will rimshot Knoxville from the south as opposed to the north with 439w/631m improving its in-market signal.

1400 WGAP and 850 WKVL Knoxville had been featuring a broad music format as “Random Music Radio“. With its call letters moving to 104.9, 850 has applied to change call letters to WSMM while its translator 100.9 W265DR has a CP to relocate to Sevierville on 92.5. The company also owns 50s/60s Oldies “Mid Century Radio” 1180 WKCE Knoxville/105.1 W286DT (with a CP to move to 93.7), Rock 106.1 WVLZ Oliver Springs, and Hip Hop “Lit 97.1” 1120 WTLT Maryville/97.1 W246DH Knoxville (operated by Pamela Anise’s One Major Media LLC via LMA).
