Mendte will also serve as news anchor for the station’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning” from 6-10am and “Mark Simone Show” from 10am-12pm. A longtime television newscaster with stops including a weekend anchor WABC-TV New York in the 1980s and then at WPIX from 2010-12, Mendte spent most of his career in his native Philadelphia at WCAU-TV from 1997-2003, KYW-TV from 2003-2008 until being fired for accessing his former co-anchor’s email, and then hosting mornings on Merlin Media’s “IQ 106.9” WWIQ in 2012. He also was the first co-host of the syndicated “Access Hollywood” in 1996 and has also had radio stints hosting mornings at 1450 WILM Wilmington DE and weekends at WABC New York.

iHeartMedia New York’s 710 WOR, the voice of New York, announced today that Emmy Award winning news anchor Larry Mendte, a forty-year broadcast journalism veteran, has joined 710 WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning,” as the show’s news anchor and WOR’s news director.

Mendte will also anchor newscasts for WOR’s “Mark Simone Show,” weekdays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. EST.

A recipient of 97 Emmy Awards and several Murrow Awards, Mendte joins WOR from New Jersey’s Me-TV (WJLP) where he most recently served as news director and host. In addition, he previously was the original co-host of TV’s syndicated “Access Hollywood,” hosted a morning talk show at WWIQ-FM Philadelphia, news anchor at CBS-3 Philadelphia, and NBC-10 Philadelphia, talk host at WABC Radio, anchor and reporter at Eyewitness News, WABC-TV NY, opinion commentator at WPIX-TV NY and news anchor at WBBM-TV Chicago.

“WOR is iconic in radio history, and I’m honored to accept this position,” said Larry Mendte, News Director and Morning News Anchor for iHeartMedia New York’s 710 WOR. “Len Berman and Michael Riedel are smart, entertaining, and informative. It’s the morning show I listen to, and I’m elated to now be part of it.”

iHeartMedia New York has a strong cross-platform presence and includes several iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing more than seven stations comprised of music, talk and news formats.

“I’ve been a fan of Larry’s for many years,” said Tom Cuddy, Program Director for iHeartMedia New York’s 710 WOR. “So, when the opportunity popped up for him to work with Len and Michael, I was truly pumped up that we were able to bring in a talent of his caliber.”
