Labor Day Weekend Format Change Watchlist/Rundown

For the first since at least before the pandemic, this Labor Day weekend is shaping up to be fairly busy on the format change side. As always, we will be first with tracking most of these changes as they take place.

Confirmed Changes

EdmontonStingray will flip Oldies “W1440” CKJR Wetaskiwin/Edmonton AB to “Sports 1440” on Tuesday, September 5.

Jacksonville – Cox Media Group will swap frequencies on Adult R&B “Hot 99.5” W258CN/WOKV-HD2 and Alternative “X106.5” WXXJ (to become WHJX) at 5pm on Thursday, August 31.

Springfield MA – New England Public Media will rearrange their signals into new News/Talk and Classical networks on Monday, September 4.

Toronto – Evanov’s LGBTQ+ “Proud-FM 103.9” CIRR-FM will sign-off on September 1 with some of its programming being integrated into co-owned Rhythmic Hot AC “Z103.5” CIDC.

Expected Changes

Medford OR – Opus Broadcasting will close on its purchase of Soft AC “The Breeze 97.7” KORJ and debut a new format with KKWL call letters.

New York – Hope Media Group will close on its purchase of Caribbean 93.5 WVIP and launch its Spanish Christian “Vida Unidas” network under new WNVU calls.

Tampa – Cox Media Group has registered a number of domains for CHR “Hot 101.5” WPOI.

Tulsa – Griffin Media Classic Hits “92.9 The Drive” KBEZ has filed to change call letters to KRQV and has registered multiple domains for the station.

Other Possible Changes

Charlottesville VA – Monticello Media Classic Hits “Generations 102.3” WZGN has filed to change call letters to WHUK effective September 5.

Phoenix – Desert Valley Media Group Hip Hop “Power 98.3/96.1” KKFR is teasing “Something New” launching on Friday, September 1 at 5:00pm.
