Cumulus Media has begun its restructuring of its Kansas City cluster with the move and rebranding of “107.3 Kansas City’s R&B and Hip Hop” KMJK North Kansas City to 105.1 as “Power 105.1“.
As first reported in our exclusive 9/26 Domain Insight report, the move replaces Rock “105.1 The X” on the frequency. X APD/MD/midday host Joel Weiss and afternoon host Jaye Powers hosted farewell shows on the station before the change.
The new “Power 105.1” will continue to feature Shay Moore in mornings and Ivani in middays. The station has dropped Reach Media’s DL Hughley Show in afternoons. The new brand launched with Program Director Jowcol ‘Boogie D’ Dolby introducing Sexyy Red’s “SkeeYee”. Boogie D will move up from 6-9pm to afternoons from 3-7pm with the move. Jessica ‘Jess Live’ Anderson joins the station for nights.
The station is currently simulcasting on both frequencies to move the audience over. A new format will debut shortly on 107.3.
The move to 105.1 gives the Hip Hop/R&B format a stronger in-city signal as it is centrally located in Kansas City, while 107.3’s tower is around 30 miles east of downtown. KMJK is currently ranked sixteenth in the Kansas City market with a 2.4 share. Carter Broadcasting Hip Hop “Hot 103 Jamz” KPRS-FM is eighth with a 4.4.
The Rock “105.1 The X” format on KCJK goes out with a 2.2 share. That format currently was positioned between Audacy’s duo of “98.9 The Rock” KQRC with a 4.9 share and “Alt 96.5” KRBZ, which was at a 2.6.
Cumulus Media (NASDAQ: CMLS) announces that it has launched Power 105.1/KCJK-FM, the new destination radio station for Kansas City’s Hip Hop and R&B fans. The all-new Power 105.1 replaces Cumulus Kansas City’s 107.3/KMJK-FM, a Hip Hop and R&B station that evolved from its Urban Adult Contemporary format after Cumulus Media acquired the station in 2004. KCJK-FM was previously programmed as Rock-formatted 105.1 The X. Concurrently, Power 105.1 launched its new website today at https://www.power1051kc.com/.
Power 105.1 is home to the biggest names in Hip Hop including Drake, Meghan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and Lil Durk, along with hits from R&B superstars like Beyoncé, Sza, Usher, and Chris Brown. Heritage local Kansas City personalities host each Power 105.1 daypart, including:
