KLUV Dallas Becomes The Spot As IP Goes To EMF

98.7 The Spot KLUV KLove Dallas
Audacy rebranded Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV Dallas as “98.7 The Spot” this morning.

The move matches the branding utilized by sister Variety Hits “95.7 The Spot” KKHH Houston. KLUV continues to feature a playlist emphasizing the 1980s with a couple of 70s songs per hour and a handful of early 1990s titles to give breathing room to sister Variety Hits “100.3 Jack-FM” KJKK. KLUV is now positioning as “Your Spot, Your Music”.

Audacy Dallas VP/Programming Vince Richards adds OM duties for The Spot. KJKK Brand Manager JT Springer will also serve as Assistant Brand Manager.

KLUV’s IP was included in the about to close sale of WLFP Memphis and WTSS Buffalo to Educational Media Foundation. Dallas was one of three markets where EMF did not hold the trademark rights to its flagship “K-Love” brand due to KLUV pre-existing. Univision holds the rights in Houston and Los Angeles, but has already agreed to share the usage of the name on-air in the latter.

The Spot is running jockless this morning outside of traffic reports. No word yet on the status of the airstaff that included Billy Kidd in mornings, Sybil Summers in afternoons, and Alex Luckey at night. WCBS-FM New York’s Race Taylor tracked middays. KLUV ranked second in the Dallas/Fort Worth market with a 5.1 share in the May 2023 Nielsen Audio ratings.

The 6am hour on the rebranded station featured:

  • Guns N’ Roses – Sweet Child O’ Mine
  • A-ha – Take On Me
  • Steve Miller – The Joker
  • Steve Perry – Oh Sherrie
  • Michael Jackson – Thriller
  • Blue Oyster Cult – Don’t Fear The Reaper
  • Talk Talk – It’s My Life
  • John Mellencamp – Jack & Diane
  • Fleetwood Mac – Landslide
  • Bon Jovi – Wanted Dead Or Alive
  • Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes – (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life

Audacy announces the launch of 98.7 The Spot (KLUV-FM) in Dallas. The station, previously known as 98.7 KLUV, will continue to provide Classic Hits favorites, including artists Journey, Madonna, Prince, Queen and more.

The station will launch with Vince Richards, Audacy Vice President of Programming, serving as Operations Manager. JT Springer will assume the role of Assistant Brand Manager in addition to his Brand Manager role for Dallas sister station 100.3 Jack FM (KJKK-FM).

“We’re thrilled to unveil the next chapter of KLUV’s history in the DFW and introduce 98.7 The Spot to our audience,” said Brian Purdy, Regional President and Market Manager, Audacy. “The Spot will continue to serve as the home for the very best the Classic Hits format has to offer, featuring hits from over fifty years that our listeners crave.”

Additional on-air staff updates will be made in the coming weeks.
