Audacy Classic Rock 92.3 KGON Portland will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Thursday, February 1.
The station will celebrate the anniversary with the return of former hosts including Mark Thompson, Iris Harrison, Dave Scott and Marty Party who will also be featured on an anniversary website that will include a merchandise museum, photos, videos and interviews. KGON launched on February 1, 1974 replacing a previous Talk when its AOR format debuted with The Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun”. The station would segue to Classic Rock in 1992, where it remains to this day.
KGON Brand Manager Ryan Castle stated, “It’s not every day a station turns 50, and we’re incredibly proud of what this brand means to the city of Portland. Of course, the longevity of this brand would not be possible without the generations of loyal listeners and our team members’ unwavering dedication to the classic rock format. Cheers to the next 50 years!”
