Kenny Allstar named as host of new BBC Radio 1 Rap Show

Kenny Allstar is the new host of the Radio 1 Rap Show, simulcast on Radio 1 and 1Xtra every Saturday night.

The show is currently called 1Xtra’s Rap Show and host Tiffany Calver will be stepping down after four years.

Kenny is known for his DJing, production and broadcasting and is considered one of the biggest champions for UK Rap and Hip-Hop.

He was DJ’ing at parties from 14 years old and honed his radio skills through various residencies at community radio stations before joining the BBC in 2018. He also owns and runs a studio hub in East London which has become a melting pot for artists from different areas and regions to come together and record their music.

Kenny Allstar said: “From the age of 11, I remember taking my mother’s cassette tapes to record The Rap Show on Saturdays. This was more than a radio show it was my entire social life. I always wanted to one day be the host of this powerful slot on these powerful networks.

“I hope to uphold the legacy that Tiffany left in place and continue to showcase the hottest in Hip Hop music on a global scale.”

Details on the start date for Kenny, and 1Xtra’s new Friday night schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
