Ken West Joins WERS As Brand Manager

88.9 WERS Boston Emerson CollegeEmerson College AAA 88.9 WERS Boston has appointed longtime Boston programmer Ken West to a newly created Brand Manager position.

West, who graduated from Emerson in 1994 and began his career at the station, most recently spent 20 years at Beasley Media Boston where he was PD of “Rock 92.9” WBOS and Classic Hits 105.7 WROR until the company’s layoffs in October. He also spent 9 years at then CBS Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX in multiple roles in promotions, production and rising to Assistant Music Director and morning show producer. He joined WROR as APD in 2002, rose to PD in 2006 and added WBOS in 2009.

WERS had a 1.6 share in the December 2022 Nielsen Audio ratings, trailing Northeast Broadcasting’s “92.5 The River” WXRV’s 2.8.

88.9 WERS, Emerson College’s owned and operated FM radio station, announces Ken West has been named to the newly created Brand Manager position, effective immediately.

The Emerson College graduate (BA/1994) started his 30+ year career in Boston radio at WERS as a host of “The Coffeehouse,” later working as a producer, on-air talent, music, programming and marketing director at legendary stations WZLX, WROR, and WBOS.

“Who says you can’t come home?” said West. “88.9 WERS is a staple of the Boston community, broadcasting a unique music format and specialty programming that can’t be found anywhere else. The station also provides a crucial training and development ground for new generations of media professionals. I’m excited and humbled to bring my years of commercial broadcasting experience to help expand the audience and engagement of 88.9 WERS. And to do it alongside my fellow classmate Howard “D” Simpson makes it even better!”
