Ken Bass has exited mornings at Lotus Communications AAA “94.9 The River” KRVB Nampa/Boise ID after nearly 20 years at the station amidst a round of layoffs at the company.
Bass has been a staple in mornings in Boise since 1985 with stints at 106.3 KCIX, 107.9 KXLT, and 670 KBOI. He joined KRVB in October 2003 and had most recently been paired with Melissa Dawn.
Bass wrote, “I have been contemplating my retirement from radio for a bit now, even thinking that I might do so maybe after my 71st birthday in March. Well, my decision was made for me today when the corporation owning 94.9 The River, where I’ve been the morning guy for almost 20 years, announced layoffs amongst all of their properties. Guess who is now laid off? Everything was handled nicely, with them giving me a nice severance package and their deepest apologies. I hold no ill will toward them. Management was very regretful and sad that this was happening, but budgetary cuts are budgetary cuts. The radio biz is pretty tough these days. I understand.”
