KBTE Lubbock PD/Afternoon Host ‘Amy O’ Garza Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Alpha Media Hip Hop “104.9 The Beat” KBTE Program Director and afternoon host ‘Amy O’ Garza was killed this weekend in a motorcycle accident in San Antonio at the age of 44.

Garza had been with KBTE since 2009 previously working in promotions and sales before rising to PD. A native of Laredo, she began her career in her hometown and Austin at Border Media between 2001 and 2009. WOAI-TV reports that she was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle driving on US 90 around 2:00am on Saturday when a pickup truck sideswiped the motorcycle and was pronounced dead on the scene. KCBD-TV adds that neither rider of the motorcycle were wearing helmets and that the pickup driver fled the scene. The driver of the motorcycle is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Alpha Media Lubbock SVP/Market Manager Jay Richardson St. released a statement commenting, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Amy. It is rare to find a person as passionate as she was to her career and community. I had the opportunity to work with Amy for the last 14 years and she was the face and energy behind 104.9 The Beat. It is impossible to replace what she brought to our organization and to the people of Lubbock.”

Garza’s brother ‘Johnny O’ Olivares is also a longtime personality and programmer best known for his 17 year run as PD/morning host at iHeartMedia Rhythmic CHR “Wild 104” KBFM McAllen TX from 2004-2021. He has also spent time in Corpus Christi and Houston.
